UPDATE #4 04/30/2016 10:58 p.m.
HOMELAND – Firefighters and other emergency first responders are on scene of a massive fire that has reportedly fully engulfed the Community First Church of God on SR 74 near Juniper Flats Road. The church is located at 31371 SR 74.
The fire was first reported about 8 p.m., and has brought a huge response from fire personnel, who are still trying to knock down the blaze.
According to CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Fuhrman described the church as being about 5,000 square feet in size. She stated when firefighters first arrived, they discovered the church fire was “well established.”
45 firefighters from 10 engine companies and two truck companies responded to the inferno, with help and guidance from six on-scene Battalion Commanders.
Southern California Edison was dispatched to the scene of the fire for an electrical hazard according to Fuhrman. The gas company was also called to the scene to shut off gas to the church and surrounding area.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Furhman reported firefighters had contained the fire, however they were expected to remain on scene most of the evening conducting mop-up operations and watching for potential flare-ups or re-ignitions.
Due to heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area, California Highway Patrol officers temporarily closed Highway 74 in both directions. For updates on road closures please visit California Highway Patrol at www.chp.ca.gov
The cause of the blaze is not yet known; however a fire investigator is already on scene, according to Fuhrman.
There were no injuries reported related to this fire.
