Hemet PD officers arrest two accused of armed robbery of restaurant
HEMET – Hemet Police officers arrested two suspects after they allegedly robbed a restaurant on Jan. 30. Both suspects were booked into jail for a variety of charges.
Hemet Police officers responded to La Cabaña restaurant, located in the 2200 block of E. Florida Ave. at about 9:55 a.m., after the Hemet PD Emergency Communications Center received a call regarding a robbery that had just occurred at the business.
Victims at the restaurant advised a male and female had entered the restaurant and demanded money. The victims stated the pair burst into the restaurant through a rear door. Both suspects were reportedly wearing scarves covering their faces during the incident. According to victims, the male was armed with a handgun.
In spite of their demands for cash, the suspects failed to obtain any money from the restaurant. After the failed robbery attempt, the suspects fled Eastbound on Florida Ave.
Hemet Police officers arrived in the area within minutes and saw both alleged suspects running westbound through the north portion of a nearby shopping center. Officers detained both suspects without incident.
Officers identified the two as Sean McConnell, a 24-year-old transient and Lorraine Moreno, 30, of Hemet.
The victims positively identified the pair as the two who had committed the robbery, Hemet Police officials stated. A press release from the department advised no one was injured during this crime. According to police officials, the firearm used during the attempted robbery was not located or recovered.
Officer booked both alleged suspects into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. McConnell was booked for attempted robbery, criminal conspiracy and false impersonation. A jail records check showed he was also booked into jail on several unrelated charges. He was being held in lieu of $70,000 bail. Moreno was booked for attempted robbery, criminal conspiracy and petty theft. She was being held in lieu of $65,000 bail.
Both are expected to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center on Feb. 3 at 8:00 a.m.
