LAKE ELSINORE; Driver trapped after solo-vehicle rollover accident – 3 hospitalized
LAKE ELSINORE – A driver who reportedly became “momentarily distracted” struck a curb, lost control of his vehicle and rolled his SUV over. The accident, which occurred on Saturday, Jan. 23, left the driver and two passengers injured, sheriff’s officials said.
911 callers reported the accident at about 7:20 p.m., and advised the driver was trapped inside the rolled-over vehicle. The accident occurred in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Mohr Street in Lake Elsinore, Sgt. Dan Ponder explained in a written press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies and other emergency first responders arrived and found two passengers suffering from minor injuries. The two passengers had already exited the SUV by the time emergency personnel first arrived, Ponder wrote.
The driver of the SUV, an unidentified Lake Elsinore resident, suffered major injuries from the crash and had to be extricated from the destroyed SUV by members of the Riverside County Fire Department.
The passengers inside the SUV told deputies the driver was traveling north on Lakeshore Drive at the time of the accident when he became distracted. The press release did not indicate the cause of the driver’s momentary distraction. After striking the curb, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and began to rollover.
An accident investigation by Riverside Sheriff’s deputies determined that the 2006 Honda SUV had rolled over multiple times before coming to a rest on the lake’s shore, Ponder wrote in the press release.
Paramedics and fire personnel evaluated and treated the driver and passengers from the SUV at the scene before they were taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
Sheriff’s officials have said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Sheriff’s deputies are asking that anyone with information on the crash contact Sheriff’s dispatch at (951) 776-1099, or the Lake Elsinore sheriff’s station at (951) 245-3300. Callers can refer to incident file number L160230077 and can remain anonymous.
